Learners explore computer hardware, software, file management and cloud storage before mastering word processing, internet research, source evaluation and safe online practices. They then develop practical competence in spreadsheets, data visualisation through charts, and presentation design using tools such as PowerPoint or Canva. Hands-on workshops build a portfolio of real documents, reports and promotional materials, emphasising accuracy, digital safety and purposeful application of technology.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify hardware, software, input and output devices, and explain how they work together with computer storage and memory.
  2. Create, format and edit Word documents using fonts, paragraph styles, tables, bullet lists, headers, footers and inserted images from multiple sources.
  3. Organise files and folders, use cloud storage, and apply basic computer operations including shortcuts, saving in different formats and printing to PDF.
  4. Search the internet effectively, evaluate online sources using CRAAP, and demonstrate safe online behaviour including recognition of phishing and malware.
  5. Build spreadsheets with correctly formatted data, apply formulas including SUM, AVERAGE, IF, MIN, MAX and COUNT, then sort, filter and create bar and pie charts to present findings.
